Using ListeningKit
A step-by-step guide for users, from sign-in to your first match.
Using ListeningKit
You do not need to be technical for Reddit. X and Facebook need one extra step (the helper).
1. Sign in
Open https://tremendous-seahorse-330.convex.site and choose Continue with Google. There is no username or password to make. Your matches and logins belong to your account only.
2. Pick where to listen
On the first screen choose the platforms your customers use: Reddit, X, Facebook. You can change this later.
3. Install the Chrome extension
The extension does one job: it reads that you are logged in to a site and hands the app a token, so the app can read that site as you.
- Download listeningkit-extension.zip from the onboarding screen, or open
/listeningkit-extension.zipon the site. - Unzip it.
- In Chrome, Edge or Brave open
chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and choose the unzipped folder. - Pin the ListeningKit icon so it is easy to find.
4. Tell us about your business
Paste your website address when asked. ListeningKit reads the page and fills in your business name, what you offer and how you sound, so matches can be judged against your business. If reading is not switched on for the site, it keeps just the name it can tell from the address and you carry on. Use a public website address; addresses like localhost are refused. You can read a site once every 30 seconds.
5. Connect a platform
- In the same browser, open the site (for example reddit.com, x.com or facebook.com) and log in.
- Click the ListeningKit icon. It should say Ready. You are logged in to that site.
- Click Copy token.
- In ListeningKit, paste it into the token box on the connect step (or Settings → Connections) and click Connect.
The token is your login. Treat it like a password. ListeningKit stores it encrypted, never shows it again, and never sends it to your browser. Use Settings → Connections → Disconnect to remove it.
For X and Facebook, use an account you can afford to lose. These sites can restrict accounts that are automated (see the helper page).
6. Add a phrase
The Free plan allows one phrase per platform and one connected account per platform at a time. When a platform is full, the Keywords page tells you so and the button is off; remove the phrase you have to add another. Settings, Billing shows what you are using. Pro, with more, is planned but not available, so there is nothing to buy.
Open Keywords, choose a platform, type the phrase, and click add.
- Reddit: also choose the community, for example
smallbusiness. The server checks it about every 10 minutes. Press Check now to check straight away. - X and Facebook: just the phrase. Matches appear once the helper is running.
Tips for good phrases: use what a customer would say, not your product name. Short, specific phrases such as need a bookkeeper work better than single words.
Each phrase row shows when it was last checked and how. "By your helper" means your own computer read it; "from a backup source, posts may be hours old" means Reddit's feed was unavailable and a slower mirror was used.
7. Read your matches
Matches appear under the phrase list, newest first. Each card shows:
- the post text, the author and a link that opens the original post;
- a score badge such as
90 · Ready to buy, with the reason in one line (needs an OpenAI key on the server; otherwise no badge); - likes and comments where the platform provides them.
Choose Best matches first to sort by score instead of time (the default is Newest first).
8. Get strong matches by email
Open Settings → Notifications, enter your email address, choose how strong a match must be (60, 70, 80 or 90 and up), tick Send me these emails, and press Save. Press Send a test email to check it arrives (it can take a minute; check spam). You get one short email with your best new matches, at most 5 in an email and at most one email every 10 minutes. Each match is emailed once. Only matches that have been scored can be emailed, so this needs scoring to be on. Untick the box to stop.
Troubleshooting
| You see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "not checked yet" (Reddit) | The first check has not run. | Press Check now. |
| "waiting for the helper on your computer" | An X or Facebook phrase has not been read yet. | Run the helper. |
| "from a backup source, posts may be hours old" | Reddit blocked the fast feed. | Fine to use, or ask the owner to set up Reddit's API keys. |
| The extension says you are not logged in | You are logged out in that browser. | Log in to the site, click the icon again. |
| "X refused the saved login" (helper) | The login expired or X logged the account out. | Log in again, copy a fresh token, reconnect. |
