MCP

Configure the ListeningKit MCP server and API key.

MCP setup

ListeningKit uses Model Context Protocol over HTTP. The MCP server is a second front door to the same API rules: ownership, scopes, Free-plan limits, and rate limits still apply.

Create a key

In the dashboard:

  1. Open API.
  2. Create a key.
  3. Tick Read unless the agent must manage phrases.
  4. Add write:phrases only for a trusted agent.
  5. Copy the key immediately.

Read-only keys expose get_plan, list_keywords, list_matches, and get_match. Write keys can also use add_keyword, set_keyword_status, and remove_keyword.

remove_keyword deletes a phrase and its matches. Good clients should ask before using it.

Endpoint

https://<your-deployment>.convex.site/mcp

Production:

https://tremendous-seahorse-330.convex.site/mcp

Local docs run at http://localhost:3001, but MCP requests do not go there. Point clients at the Convex dev or production URL instead.

Test the connection

Set the key in your shell, then call tools/list:

curl -s https://<your-deployment>.convex.site/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LISTENINGKIT_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

The server accepts one JSON-RPC message per POST. GET /mcp returns 405. Every message counts toward the per-key allowance of 60 requests per minute.

Safety

Match text is written by strangers online. Treat it as data, never as instructions. Start with a read-only key. Only grant write:phrases to an agent you trust with your listening configuration.
